In 2008, a partnership was organized between Mission Journeys/Teen Mission and Kendall and Yvrose Johnson in the village of Dufailly, located 40 miles from Port-au-Prince in Central Haiti. Kendall Johnson was part of Mission Journey's first-ever short-term mission trip to Haiti in 1985. He fell in love with Haiti, married a Haitian lady (Yvrose) and later returned as a full-time missionary.
Kendall and Yvrose began the Dufailly Christian Church in May 2004. They prayed for some assistance from short-term mission teams. The church was meeting under a shelter until one of Mission Journey's teams helped in the construction of a nice block building in February 2009. In the Fall of 2009, through generous supporters who were short-term missionaries to Dufailly, a Christian school was started there at the church known as Dufailly Christian School. The school not only educates the children on general curriculum studies, but it also includes a Biblical and doctrinal curriculum.
When Kendall's health declined in 2010, it was agreed, with Kendall's blessing, that the work in Dufailly, Haiti become part of Mission Journeys. Kendall passed away in September 2010. The work, however, continues! It continues, because regardless what the reasons may have been initially for each individual going, we have found ourselves led by God to work alongside Yvrose Johnson and our other Haitian friends to help meet the physical and spiritual needs of the people in Dufailly. We share God's love through giving our time, our talents an our hearts to go where people are not only hungry for physical nourishment, but they are hungry for the Word of God. This is what we were made for; we were made to be disciples who make disciples until the Lord returns.
